Who We Are

Our Story

A Few Words About Us

 An Idea Is Born!

Antiques on The Green has five rooms across two floors, three outbuildings as well as a yard and a walled garden (which also serve as outside seating areas for the Tea Room), which are to browse at your own leisure.

We have a speciality social history room. Which features items from all walks of life, from mining to military. This room has lots to offer with numerous paintings and pictures, including those by Ron Gray. View the many different mining lamps, as well as handmade tapestries and medals from the past. This room takes you from the present to the past as you gaze upon items that are personal and treasured by many. You can learn of the lives of those individuals from down the pit and behind the front line. These items belonged to the many important individuals that helped form and create our present, as well as our future. This room plays a very key aspect in bringing together the community of then and now, and we promise, you'll love it just as much as us.

In one of our outbuildings we offer a full restoration service for all antique furniture and well made modern furniture. We have a trained professional that works tirelessly to restore both our furniture and the furniture of others.

The shop is known to have a warm and friendly atmosphere, which makes it easier for all of our customers to feel at home here and relax that little bit more while they enjoy either the antiques or the Tea Room.

Antiques tell a story...

Every item in the shop has a unique history to offer. Every item, large and small, has a different story to tell, of how it came to be and to whom it belonged. Within our walls you may find the perfect item for you, perhaps a well read book, every page of it once loved. But with years passed by, it's barely been touched. You open it up and begin the next step. It may temporarily become your journey, and your story, but you will forever become part of it.

If you explore and dig deep you will find items from as far back as 47AD to present time, as you meander through the shop and the outbuildings you can immerse yourself and travel back through time as you browse. We have gathered together an eclectic mix of items, antiques and curios to cater for all tastes, from the young on a journey of adventure to the old reminiscing about the past and the warm feeling of childhood.

You can meet Mary Ann Cotton and explore the myths and legends of West Auckland and County Durham. Come and see what we have to offer, you might be surprised with what you can find! Take your time and relax as you wander, and have a slice of cake with a slice of history.
